Michel Alario: Dansons le Macchabée.

Who are you?

Human being, crazy about records, passionate about music. Mod punk.

Who are you wearing?

Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, Levi’s and Clark’s black desert boots.

Rarest record in your collection?

It’s an obscure garage 45 from a French Canadian band, not sure yet if it’s from Quebec. It’s a well kept secret. When a big time Canadian collector found out that I had this record, he contacted me to tell me not to reveal its existence. If worldwide garage collectors found out about this record, they would go crazy! True story.

How many records is too many?

You can only have too many bad records.

Record you are ashamed to have in your collection?

I’m not ashamed of anything I have because I stand by every record I own. But I have good taste, so…

Could you give some tips to aspiring young DJs?

Play what you like and not what is supposed to be cool.

Describe the day and the state of mind you were the first time you heard ''Food Fight'' by The Village People.

“Oh my god, are you fucking kidding me!!??!!”

What 60's garage band would be the Beatles and Rolling Stones of Quebec?

Strangely enough, we didn’t have a copycat band of the Beatles in Quebec. For their musical style, evolution and what they tried to do with their music, I would have to say that Les Bel Canto are the Beatles of Quebec. Les Misérables are the Rolling Stones of course!

What French or Quebec band should an American listen to discover French garage?

For Quebec, I guess the first Lp by Les Sinners is a good place to start.

But if you want a really good comp to discover French and Quebec bands, it’s “Ils Sont Fous Ces Gaulois” Vol.1.

Craziest show you ever played with Les Macchabées?

Almost all Les Macchabées shows were wild! But the Annual Halloween Parties were always insane!!!

Who would win in a fight between Chewbacca and Alf?

Chewbacca I hope, but I would rather read a stack of good comic books than take the time to watch that kind of fight.

What's your message for the kids?

Don’t be dumb, think!
