Spain's Wau Y Los Arrrghs release third LP on Slovenly Recordings

Wau Y Los Arrrghs will release their third LP on Slovenly Recordings October 15th (and October 7th for lucky Europe).

Check out what Slovenly has to say about them:

"The 3rd album from Spain’s most savage crew of ‘66 garage-punk worshipping scum of the Earth, WAU Y LOS ARRRGHS!!! This brand new long-playing monstrosity sees singer Juanito Wau, the barely human Rat Fink comic, continuing his long-held reign as the most bugged out screamer on the scene. Meanwhile, and we do mean MEAN, the remaining Arrrghs mutilate the massive, crunched-out  riffs of 60s punk’s past (Cuby and the Blizzards and Jacques Dutronc, anyone?) and reconstructs them with spit, snarl and endless piles of fuzz and swirling Vox organ. Impolite, swinging brutality from the grave for the sweatiest go-go gorilla party ever!"

Interview with Miss Chain & The Broken Heels

Where are you?

We are in Italy, land of the Pope, spaghetti, mandolino and Bella Vita. Right now I’m sitting in a fancy cafe having an Espresso and enojoying Spring that finally arrived!

Favorite word in Italian?

Pantagruelico! It means HUGE and it’s a bizzare word.

Why do so many American bands love to tour Italy?

Easy answer: women, pizza, landscape, art, history, big money.

Best place to play in Europe for an Italian band?

Awwww too many!!!! Well for sure Subway to Peter in Chemnitz (best garlic shots ever!!!) and Gleiss 22 in Munster! Markus always treats us like family! PMK in Innsbruck! Elmar and the crew are one of us!

If your band were a movie, would it be a western or a horror movie?

Western for life! I’d love to bang bang all around in a desert landscape with cactus and horses all around me.

What qualities should your perfect bachelor have?

Irony, sarcasm, great sense of humor, responsibility, indipendence, spontaneity, patience, empathy, creativity and civility. I hate rudeness and narcissism.

Best way to repair a broken heel?

I usually prefer to keep it broken and stand as nothing happened, but if you want to repair it go with the classic bubblegum trick. Chew the bubblegum, then spit it and use it as collagen.

In what way your "Calcutta" is better than The Ventures "Calcutta"?

It has (amazing) lyrics! Dedicated to the sweet Goddess Kali: the dark Mother.

What's the best advice you ever got?

“In your life, to reach your goals, you should use the fact you are a woman! People go crazy for that!” I’m still fighting this wonderfull advice.

What is the first thing a visitor should do in Bergamo?

Go to eat ice-cream at Marianna (stracciatella was born there!!!). Lots of other things but basically they are all about eating. Pizza at Circolino (or at GALLETTO!!!!!!! BEST PIZZA I EVER ATE!!!!!!! REALLY!!!)

Who is the unofficial mayor of Bergamo?

Francesco Portesi.

For some reason, he can’t send out secret messages anymore. Trixie and Marsha set off to the ancient spa town of Bathbath to find a cure before all his branches fall off, but Bathbath is a funny town and its historic Art Museum seems to have some secrets of it’s own. So does the mysterious drummer JJ Suade! Adventure unfolds as Trixie and Marsha try to save the Happy Tree and look at art for people that can’t read. Shot in Mini-Magic with dozens of talented local puppeteers.
The Mystery in Old Bathbath has been named “Puppet Movie of the Year” by the World Carnival of Puppets.
It also received the prestigious “Santa’s Workshop Award” at the Winter Garden Film Festival and took first place for feature film at the Animation and Animals Film Fest in Paris France.

About Quintron and Miss Pussycat

Quintron has been making genre-defying noise and “Swamp-Tech” dance music in New Orleans for over fifteen years. The majority of his 13 full-length albums have the psychedelic soul of New Orleans garage R&B filtered through a tough distorted Hammond B-3 and a cache of self-made electronic instruments. He has also released strange soundscapes based on inner-city field recordings of frogs and neighborhood ambiance as well as holing himself up in THE NEW ORLEANS MUSEUM OF ART for three months to create the epic “Sucre Du Sauvage” (Goner, 2011). In addition to his own recordings, Quintron has played organ on a number of other records, most notably THE OBLIVIONS “9 Songs” and STEVE RILEY AND THE MAMOU PLAYBOYS “Grand Isle” which was nominated for a Grammy in 2012 and featured the Quintron penned song “Chatterbox”.
Quintron regards his most significant creation to be his patented instrument called the THE DRUM BUDDY, a light activated analog synthesizer that creates murky, low-fidelity, rhythmic patterns. Notable DRUM BUDDY clients include performers Nels Cline of Wilco, Laurie Anderson, Fred Armisen, and DJ Mr. Dibbs. He has recently invented an analog “drone synthesizer” called THE SINGING HOUSE which is completely modulated by the weather.

Quintron’s permanent collaborator is none other than master puppeteer, MISS PUSSYCAT who plays maracas and sings, as well as entertaining all age groups with her highly amusing technicolor puppet shows.

Hers are complex puppet shows beautifully crafted for success in intimate venues of late night drinking and dancing: tactile, idiosyncratic characters, pithy dialogue, electronically pixilated soundtracks, and trippy black light effects create a visual and engaging overture/finale to Quintron and Miss Pussycat’s music sets. Quintron aids in puppet manipulation and voicing. Miss Pussycat, in turn, sings lead and back-up and plays maracas during Quintron’s performances.

The Quintron / Miss Pussycat experience is one of barely controlled electronic chaos, “Swamp-Tech” dance beats, small explosions, incredible clothes, and entertaining puppet stories. You can see them perform regularly at the Spellcaster Lodge in New Orleans, Louisiana or on one of their many tours around the world. This act somehow has equal relevance in sleazy nightclubs, pizza restaurants, and university lecture halls.

New Ray Davies book out next month

The Kinks' Ray Davies' new book, "Americana: The Kinks, the Road and the Perfect Riff" will be available October 3rd in the UK.

Synopsis, from Ebury Publishing:

As a boy in post-War England, legendary Kinks singer/songwriter Ray Davies fell in love with America – its movies and music, its culture of freedom all fed his imagination. Then, as part of the British Invasion, he toured the US with the Kinks during one of the most tumultuous eras in American history – until the group was banned from performing there from 1965-69. Decades later, while living in New Orleans, he experienced a transformative event: the shooting (a result of a botched robbery) that nearly took his life. In Americana, Davies tries to make sense of his long love-hate relationship with the country that both inspired and frustrated him. From his quintessentially English perspective as a Kink, Davies – with candour, humour, and wit – takes us on a very personal road trip through his life and storied career as a rock star, and reveals what music, fame and America really mean to him. Some of the most fascinating characters in recent pop culture make appearances, from the famous to the perhaps even more interesting behind-the-scenes players. The book also includes a photographic insert with images from Davies's own collection from the band's archive.

You know you want to hear Quebecois country music!

From August 29th to September 1th, FME (Festival de Musique Emergente) or EMF (Emerging Music Festival (depending on your native tongue) is happenning in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. FME is a cool music festival  and since Rouyn Noranda is far from everything else, journalist Felix B. Desfosse made an amazing compilation to help you kill the boredom of driving there. Many of the songs are French Canadian country songs, but there is some really cool weirdness in there. You can read about the songs (if you can read French) and stream the songs HERE.

You can download the compilation HERE.

And if you do, you'll hear amazing songs like this one:

Stolen Girls to release a cassette on Panther People

Nobunny will tell you a secret on October 15th

Nobunny will release a new album October 15th on Goner Records. The new album will be called Secret Songs: Reflections From the Ear Mirror so you know it's gonna be special.

No track list or preview yet but we should hear one part of that secret soon.

Dot Dash will help you half-remember your dream, but only the good parts

Dot Dash just released their 3rd album, Half-Remembered Dream, on Beautiful Music Records.

You can stream it right here:

Here is the press release:

Summer is nearing an end — time for a new Dot Dash album.
Half-Remembered Dream is the third Dot Dash album released in less than two years.
The 10-track Half-Remembered Dream, out this month, was preceded by Winter Garden Light (released in September 2012) and spark>flame>ember>ash (released in September 2011) – all on The Beautiful Music, the Ottawa, Canada-based indie label that has been issuing underground pop records for more than 10 years.
For the new record the Washington D.C.-based quartet traveled north to neighboring Baltimore, where Half-Remembered Dream was recorded at Lord Baltimore Studios.
As before, there’s a persistent thread of melancholy running through Dot Dash’s ringing, intense, melodic pop, but it takes on a variety of forms. Amidst jangling, wistful guitars — contrasted by often thunderous bass and drums — Half-Remembered Dream is, by turns, energetic, plaintive, and punky.
Dot Dash plays out frequently and has shared recent bills with Ash, The Drums, The Bats, The Monochrome Set, and Glen Matlock, among many others.
Band line-up: Terry Banks – guitar & voice; Bill Crandall – guitar; Hunter Bennett – bass; Danny Ingram – drums.
Half-Remembered Dream is available as a CD directly from The Beautiful Music’s PayPal-enabled ordering portal at
The album is also available as a download via iTunes, Bandcamp, eMusic, and Amazon

Don't miss them on Sept. 22 at DC9 (in Washington DC) with Terry Malts.

Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs bring the 80s back with "Under The Covers"

Drew Reynolds

Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs will release Volume 3 of their Under The Covers series, this time focusing on the 80s. The new album will be out November 12.

You can listen to them covering Susanna Hoffs' nemesis' song, "Our Lips Are Sealed",  HERE.

Check out their Billboard interview here:

After taking on the '60s and '70s with the first two volumes of "Under the Covers" series, Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet -- aka Sid & Susie -- hit the 80s with "Under the Covers, Vol. 3," which comes out Nov. 12 on Shout! Factory.
"We were surprised when they put a 'Vol. 1' on the 60s album, so we just keep going with it," Hoffs tells Billboard. "Every time we enter a new decade we're always sort of excited and surprised to discover how much fun it is to revisit the music and the decade and the context of it all."
Unlike the first two "Under the Covers," however, "Vol. 3" represents a decade Hoffs and Sweet have a more direct connection with -- Hoffs via the Bangles, which formed during 1981, and Sweet as a high school music aficionado during the first half of the decade before moving to Athens, Ga., and releasing his first album, "Inside," in 1986. "It was a little different for both of us," Sweet explains, "but there was a lot of important stuff going on. There was American stuff that was vibrant and new and about to move from college radio and create a whole new format called Alternative Rock. And there was an incredible continuing influence of just amazingly creative English groups coming in, like XTC and Echo & the Bunnymen. A lot of those groups actually started recording in the 70s and we thought about them for ('Vol. 2'), but we couldn't fit them on there."
"Under the Covers, Vol. 3" cuts a wide swath through all that music, from Britain (Roxy Music, Dave Edmunds, the Smiths, the English Beat) to California (Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'," Lindsey Buckingham's "Trouble") and even tapping underground favorites such as The Bongs ("The Bulrushes") and the dB's ("Big Brown Eyes"). The duo did, however, make what Sweet calls "a conscious decision" not to put a Bangles song on the collection.
"We talked about it a long time," Sweet says, though Hoffs notes that "when we were out on our tour for ('Vol. 2') we were already starting to bounce around ideas for the 80s, and I said that if we did a Bangles song, (Sweet) would have to sing it." "I would've loved to have sung something by the Bangles, but I just didn't want to ruin it," Sweet adds with a laugh. "We just figured it was best if we didn't try it."
They do, however, cover the Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed," which Hoffs says was appropriate for her particular 80s experience.

Kickstarter alert! Help "The Big Beat: The Story of Fats Domino and His Band"

    Donate HERE!

About the film (from the Kickstarter page):

The early years (1949-62) of the Fats Domino / Dave Bartholomew collaboration and its roots in the culture and music of New Orleans

....On the day in 1948 the unlikely paths of Antoine "Fats" Domino and Dave Bartholomew collided at a small Lower Ninth Ward New Orleans night club neither men would have suspected that their collaboration would result in  one of the longest ( 65 years and running) and most successful in American Music  history.  A collaboration that, by 1962, would sell over 60 million records.

THE BIG BEAT: THE STORY OF FATS DOMINO AND HIS BAND is also the story of how Fats and Dave's music  BECAME Rock N' Roll and how it effectively broke down the color barriers that  paved the way for racial integration through music. We will use  recent interviews with Dave, Fats and with surviving band members and rare previously unseen full length vintage performances of the Fats Domino Band ( with Dave Bartholomew on Trumpet) performing their early hits to illustrate the story of these two men and the other musicians who made their band among the greatest in Rock N' roll history...
Several years ago, while doing preliminary research for a possible Fats Domino documentary, I discovered in ( of all places!) the French National Archive, a 45 minute live concert film , shot in 1962, of the original Fats Domino band...the same band that recorded with Fats from 1949 to 1962 as well as appearing , with Dave Bartholomew as band leader and director, on over 200 nationally charted singles and 21 gold records - all of which recorded in Cosimo Matasa’s tiny J&M studio on Rampart Street in the city of New Orleans
To find a 45 minute concert of any African American Rock N' Roll band filmed in 1962 is almost completely unheard of. Generally the early pioneers of Rock, both black and white,  were only allowed  short appearances on TV Dance Party or Variety shows or appeared lip syncing one of their current  hits in a Hollywood teen movie. It is just unheard of that a 45 minute 1962 live concert should exist..and one featuring with  one of the most important and influential Rock N’ Roll bands of all times.
So, with this amazingly exciting footage as the  corner stone, we will tell their story. The film will be a performance/documentary as we intend to show the performances in their cutting for narrative..just the band performing as it was on that Summer day in 1962. This will be the true story of the early years of Fats Domino; a story that would not exist without Fats'   longtime collaboration with New Orleans  Trumpeter, song writer, arranger and band leader Dave Bartholomew; a story that shows the transition of Rhythm & Blues to Rock N' Roll at the hands of these two pioneers.
Their story is rooted in the culture, traditions and rhythms of their native New Orleans, their home town from the beginning of their lives til this very day. The film will primarily focus on Fats and Dave but will also pay tribute to legendary  New Orleans musicians LEE ALLEN, HERB HARDESTY,  CORNELIUS "TENOO" COLEMAN, and WALTER "PAPOOSE" NELSON who were long time members of the Dave Bartholomew and Fats Domino bands and who played on 100's of the greatest R&B and Rock N' Roll  records to come out of New Orleans.

Its is also the story of how their music BECAME Rock N' Roll and effectively broke down the color barriers that  paved the way for racial integration through music. We will use  previously unseen full length vintage performances of the Fats Domino Band( with Dave Bartholomew on Trumpet) performing their early hits .We will tell the story of the secret history of the birth of Rock N’ Roll..and it came from New Orleans!
