Speedy Ortiz Hits The Road To Support The Girls Rock Camp Foundation

Massachusetts' Speedy Ortiz is hitting the road next month to benefit the Girls Rock Camp Foundation.

From the band:
"GRCF provides funding and support to the the various Girls Rock organizations around the world, which in turn provide affordable music education to kids. Girls Rock helps level the music business' playing field by coaching girls to form bands, develop skills in music engineering and technical production, and build their self esteem along the way. We love the work GRCF does, and are proud to support them on this tour--and can't wait to play with a Girls Rock Boston band at our hometown show!"

The Kurt Baker Combo "Give It Up" Pre-Sale Starts Tomorrow, October 2, 12 Noon EST.

Starting tomorrow, you can pre-order the new Kurt Baker Combo 45 coming out on Hidden Volume Records.

Hidden Volume says: "The Man From Maine in Spain is back again! Hot on the heels of his latest full-length "Play It Cool" (Rum Bar Records), Hidden Volume Records is releasing the double A-side single "Give It Up b/w "Motion Devotion" in late November. But for those of you who are hip to the scene, you can pre-order this slab tomorrow at 12pm noon EST. First 100 orders will be on electric blue wax and ship with an exclusive Kurt Baker Combo patch and you get an immediate digital download of the A-side. Once the physical single has reached the Hi-Vo factory floor, we will ship these (with patch) out. This is limited to 300 total copies (100 electric blue, 200 black vinyl) and will not be repressed. First come, first serve."

Go here tomorrow for the pre-order.

What more can we add? Kurt Baker is pretty much taking over the world right now so we'd advise NOT sleeping on this! You really oughta be one of the 300 lucky people who get to grab this one - hell, how about one of the lucky 100 who get it on electric blue vinyl?

Here's a track from his new album that came out last month. This guy even makes Mondays sound fun. Color us impressed.

New Release From Voodoo Rhythm Records: The Jackets' "Shadows of Sound"

Who can resist something called "super killer fuzz psych garage punk from Switzerland"? Not us, that's for sure.

Shadows of Sound is the third full length album from The Jackets, a truly mind blowing, hip shaking, freaky fuzz-garage power trio from Bern, Switzerland, formed in 2007 by Jackie Brutsche, Chris Rosales and Samuel Schmidiger (former members of The Get Lost, Mad Cowgirl Disease, Revered & Lightning Beat-Man to name a few). Their first two albums were released on the fantastic Soundflat Records (Germany) and Subversiv Records (Switzerland). Singer and guitar player Jackie Brutsche's (aka Jack Torera) stage performances are extraordinary and probably the wildest since Switzerland's Kleenex in 1978. The Jackets have a rhythm section everyone dreams of. This is traditional drum and bass at its tightest and best. What Chris Rosales and Samuel Schmidiger create together is the rhythm that makes the girls lift their skirts and the boys drop their trousers! The purist beat for every garage punker. To create this new album, the band went to the well-known, all analog recording studio Circo Perrotti in Gijon, Spain, working with engineer and producer Jorge Explosion. The result is a straight, to-the-point garage rock n roll record.

Tracklist:

1) Don't Turn Yourself In (FREE MP3)
2) At The Go-Go
3) Sometimes Maybe
4) Keep Yourself Alive
5) Living The Past
6) Watch You Cry
7) Wheels of Time
8) You Better
9) Hands Off Me
10) Astronaut
11) Shadows of Sound

Get the album here from Voodoo Rhythm Records.

Check out a great video for "Freak Out" from 2012's Way Out. Warning: you will have to buy the new album after watching this because it is that good.

Dan Melchior's Broke Revue To Release First Album in Over Ten Years

After a ten year hiatus, bluesy-experimental-garage rock master Dan Melchior is back with a new album,  Lords of the Manor, out August 28th on one of our all time favorite labels, In The Red.

In The Red says: Lords of the Manor is an entirely different beast [from his earlier albums]; song structure and instrumentation are stripped to the bare bones, and melody is ditched in favor of repetition. Dan's usual lyrical style is jettisoned for a far more minimal approach and the band's previous penchant for tightly-crafted two-to-three-minute rock songs has given way to long, sprawling improvisations. The result is dark, relentless and incredible.

The first 200 LPs will be released on green vinyl. Although the release date is set for August 28th it appears to be available now from In The Red here.

Dig this awesome video of Dan playing at last year's WFMU Record Fair.

Reigning Sound Coming To NY, DC and Atlanta This Fall

Wed. Sept. 30 at The Bell House (Brooklyn, NY)
Thu. Oct. 1 at DC 9 (Washington DC)

Here's a video for "Never Coming Home" off last year's Shattered. We love this song and it's an awesome video but also sort of, well, incredibly sad. Don't watch it when you're feeling vulnerable unless you're ready for a good cry.
